PegCast

Privacy and support

How PegCast handles your information, and how to get help.

Privacy notice

PegCast works without an account. It asks for a permission only when you choose a feature that needs it.

Who is responsible

PegCast is an independent app. The controller for personal information handled by PegCast is Dean Whittaker, a private individual in the United Kingdom.

Dean is also PegCast's privacy officer. Email dean@deancod.es about your information, your rights or a complaint.

What stays on your iPhone

Your Forecast Location, your last advice, your Load Plans, any revised advice and your Drying Outcomes stay on this iPhone.

An iPhone backup can include them. PegCast has no account, adverts, analytics or PegCast server for the iPhone app.

Dean does not receive this information unless you send it.

What Apple receives

Apple Weather receives your Forecast Location, rounded to about 1 km, so that it can return a forecast.

Apple Weather returns the hourly rain, wind, temperature, humidity, cloud cover and daylight, and the time of sunset. PegCast works out the sun's position on this iPhone from the hour and your Forecast Location, rounded to 0.1 degree. No more data leaves this iPhone for it.

With Forecast-Change Alerts on, iOS can run background checks for your Load Plan. Each check sends the same rounded position to Apple Weather.

Apple Maps receives your place search. It receives your device location only when you tap Use device location.

Apple may handle these requests outside your country. The Apple Privacy Policy covers how Apple handles them.

Apple handles your purchase of PegCast. PegCast never sees your payment details.

Why PegCast uses your information

PegCast sends your Forecast Location to Apple Weather only to get the forecast for your advice.

The legal basis is Dean's legitimate interest in giving you the advice that you ask PegCast for.

To stop these requests, turn off Forecast-Change Alerts and stop using PegCast, or remove it.

Dean reads support emails and exports that you send, to answer you and to test the drying model.

The legal basis is Dean's legitimate interest in helping you and making the advice better. You can object to this.

PegCast makes no decision about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect.

When you export Drying Outcomes

An export holds each Drying Outcome with its original advice and forecast inputs. It also holds any revised advice, the model version and the plan times.

It keeps your Forecast Location only as coordinates rounded to 0.1 degree, an area several kilometres wide. It has no place name, address, account, device identifier or password.

Sharing sends a copy to the place that you choose. Your records stay on this iPhone if you cancel or sharing fails.

If you send the export to Dean, Dean uses it to test the drying model. It arrives with your email address or other contact details, so Dean can link it to you.

Dean deletes it 12 months after your last message about it.

Retention and deletion

Saved data stays on this iPhone until you remove the app. PegCast does not have a delete control yet.

A Bring-In Reminder stays scheduled until iOS delivers it, you turn it off, or its plan ends.

When you email support

If you email dean@deancod.es, Dean keeps the emails for 12 months after the last message. Then Dean deletes them.

Apple stores support emails in iCloud Mail. Apple may process them outside the UK.

Your choices

You do not have to give PegCast any personal information. Without a place, PegCast cannot give drying advice.

Location permission is optional. Searching for a town or postcode is a complete path.

Reminders, Forecast-Change Alerts and Drying Outcomes are optional. PegCast asks only when you choose them, not when you first open it.

Emailing Dean and sending an export are optional too.

Your rights

Dean holds only the support emails and export files that you send. Dean cannot see the information on your iPhone.

You can ask Dean for a copy of that information. You can ask Dean to correct or delete it.

You can ask Dean to restrict its use, or object to its use. You can ask for a portable copy.

To withdraw an export that you sent, email Dean. Dean then deletes it.

You can withdraw location or notification permission at any time in iPhone Settings.

Some rights have legal conditions and exceptions. Removing the app deletes the information on your iPhone.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how Dean handles your information, please email Dean first.

In the United Kingdom, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.

In Ireland, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission.

In New Zealand, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Australia's Privacy Act exempts most small businesses, and it probably does not cover PegCast.

The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner explains that exemption.

When optional features ask

PegCast asks only after you choose the feature. Each item names the button or switch that you tap.

Use your device location
PegCast asks for location access only when you tap Use device location. Apple Maps finds a place from it. PegCast keeps only its town, postcode district, time zone and a position to about 1 km.
In the app: "Use device location". iOS then asks for location access. Searching for a town or postcode needs no permission.
Remind me to bring washing in
A Bring-In Reminder is a notification that this iPhone schedules. PegCast asks for notification permission only when you turn on a reminder or Forecast-Change Alerts.
In the app: "Remind me at 7:00 pm", "Alert me if the forecast changes". These switches are on the plan screen. Each reminder switch shows the time of its reminder. iOS then asks for notification permission.
Record how the washing dried
After you bring washing in, you can keep a record of how dry it was. The record stays on this iPhone. PegCast makes an export file only when you ask, and you choose where it goes.
In the app: "Record Drying Outcome", "Save", "Not now". The plan screen offers it after you bring washing in.

Support

No account number, diagnostic upload form or chatbot required.

Why is the forecast unavailable?

PegCast could not get complete, fresh weather from Apple Weather. Try again later. It will not guess from stale or partial information.

Can I use PegCast without location permission?

Yes. Search for a town or postcode. PegCast asks for location only when you tap Use device location.

Why did a reminder not appear?

Delivery depends on your iPhone notification settings. A Bring-In Reminder uses your saved plan. With Forecast-Change Alerts on, PegCast also checks the weather in the background. iOS decides when these checks run, and they can be hours late.

How do I remove my information?

Remove the app. That deletes everything PegCast keeps on this iPhone. An export file stays wherever you sent it.

Still stuck?

Email dean@deancod.es. Include your iPhone model, iOS version and what happened. Do not send an exact address or a screenshot that shows private information.
